Collision Course is an upcoming Nigerian social drama film, set to be released on Netflix, this week. The film was earlier released in Nigeria on 14 February and will have a runtime of about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The feature film is inspired by the EndSARS protests against police brutality and how youths were ready to make their voices heard. It also had the prestigious African Film Festival (AFRIFF) world premiere and even bagged a number of awards including the Africa Movie Academy Awards’ Achievement in Screenplay.

The cast of the film includes Daniel Etim-Effiong, Bamike ‘Bam Bam’ Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, Kelechi Udegbe, Bimbo Manuel, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Kalu Ikeagwu, Ade Laoye, Norbert Young, Kenneth Okolie, and Gregory Ojefua.

The official synopsis of the film reads, “A law enforcement officer tries to make ends meet by soliciting bribes. But a tense run-in with a wealthy young musician changes his life forever.”

It is a heart-thumping story told in 24 hours about the lives of a law enforcement agent and an aspiring musician. It explores the seedy underbelly of rogue law enforcement officers and the painful and atrocious results of their actions as they collide head-on with the struggling musician and the conflicted member of the police force.

Inspired by the October 2020 anti-police brutality protests in Lagos, Abuja and many other cities in southern Nigeria the film is a reminder of how many Nigerian youths took to the streets to demand an end to what they called endemic police brutality. The film shows that a police officer sets up a roadblock to extract money from drivers, only to encounter the frustrated young artist with a pregnant wife.

After accidentally shooting dead the musician, the plot sets in motion a chain of events that leads to emotional trauma, arrest and a note-worthy commentary on the state of affairs within the police force.

The film premiers on September 2nd on Netflix. Check out its trailer below.
