A short documentary film about one of Chicago’s most renowned shoe repair shops, founded in the early 1900s by a Greek immigrant, will premiere in-person for the first time in Los Angeles this October following delays due to the pandemic.

Directed by Dimitra Korri, “Harry’s Gold Coast: Since 1907” will screen during the We Make Movies International Film Festival which lasts from October 6-9. The film will be shown on Sunday, October 9 at 4:00pm at The Broadway Theatre located at 6320 Santa Monica Blvd.

“Harry’s Gold Coast” is a tribute to the director’s grandfather, Harry Koris, and features her father, Peter Koris, in exclusive behind-the-scenes footage where he explains not only his desire to follow in his father’s footsteps but also touches on celebrity repairs that he has completed for the likes of Bozo the Clown, Wham! and James Brown, among others.

“We do all kinds of designer shoes,” Peter says in the film. “We’ve been commended by a lot of famous designers such as Giorgio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Yves Saint Lauren, Louis Vuitton…”

“Harry’s Gold Coast” premiered virtually as an Official Selection in the 2021 Golden State Film Festival on the Shorts Daily Roku Channel from March 19-25, 2021. Korri served as the film’s director, cinematographer, producer and editor.

Korri is an independent filmmaker who has worked on award-winning music videos, animation for television, commercial videos, web series, docuseries and independent feature and short films. The 30-year-old has worked with Olympia Dukakis, Greg Yaitanes, The Chicago Tribune, Telemundo, Cirque Du Soleil and American Film Institute, among others.

Korri worked as an associate producer on the feature-length documentary, “The New Greek Americans (1960-2018),” in collaboration with the Greek Heritage Society of Southern California. The film was an Official Selection at the 2019 New York Greek Film Festival, 2020 Los Angeles Greek Film Festival and 2020 Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.

“I love bringing a story to life from script to screen,” Korri tells The Pappas Post. “This documentary short is very close to my heart because I’ve been documenting my father and grandfather’s work in the shoe repair industry since I was 13 years old.”
