*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Samaritan*

With so many new entries in the superhero genre, it can be hard to find a film that offers something a little different but that’s what Prime Video’s latest arrival manages to achieve.

The film tells the story of a young boy who believes that his neighbour is the superhero, Samaritan, who supposedly died in a fight against his sworn enemy decades earlier.

Since it arrived, Samaritan has won plenty of praise from Prime Video fans, many of whom are now calling for a sequel, Samaritan 2.

Crime in Granite City is on the rise and with chaos threatening to overwhelm the population, 13-year-old Sam Cleary believes the city is in need of a hero.

The young boy believes that his mysterious and reclusive neighbour, Joe Smith, could be the answer to Granite City’s prayers, suspecting him to be the legendary super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, who disappeared after a fiery battle 25 years earlier.

Despite Joe’s reluctance, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbour out of hiding before the city faces complete ruin.  

In the final moments of the film, it’s revealed that Samaritan had, in fact, died in the explosive fight 25 years earlier and that Joe is actually the hero’s villainous twin brother, Nemesis.

However, Sam doesn’t tell this to the press after Joe saves the day and instead, he reveals that ‘Samaritan’ lives.

The ending leaves the door wide open for more as a potential sequel could see Joe attempting to live up to the Samaritan name that Sam has given him in an effort to keep his brother’s legacy alive.

However, perhaps the re-emergence of Samaritan could see a new villain arrive on the scene after learning that Granite City’s superpowered protector has miraculously returned.

It should be noted, however, that no Samaritan sequel has been given the green light at the time of writing.

Following the release of Samaritan, plenty of fans have taken to social media to call for a sequel.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “Anyone else watch Samaritan yet? Makes me want to read the comics now. Would love to have a sequel with more action. This one was a good setup for another movie. A prequel would be kinda cool too.”

While another added: “Samaritan was fantastic! Something happens, which I did see coming, but knowing did not ruin the experience in the slightest. Not only could this have a sequel, but a prequel and I’d be here for both.”

However, this fan was not so thrilled about the prospect of a sequel: “Please don’t make a Samaritan sequel. One film was torture enough.”

“Finally saw Samaritan last night and Sylvester Stallone delivered an epic “twist” performance that I didn’t see coming,” said this fan. “I really hope there is a sequel or prequel.”

While another Twitter user commented: “I really enjoyed Samaritan, a fun film. Well played by all the cast and hoping that we do get a sequel for this one.

And finally, this fan wrote: “Amazon Prime’s Samaritan was really good. Sylvester Stallone suited playing an aged superhero! I hope there’s gonna be a sequel.”

Samaritan is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video after releasing on August 26, 2022.
