The Nothing Phone (1) might attract many customers looking for a new flamboyant smartphone, but a pertinent question remains: is it durable? At first look, the phone could appear sturdy, thanks to its metal frame and 8.3mm thick body, but we have seen many devices with a similar build fail in the past. In that case, Zach Nelson, who also goes by JerryRigEverything on YouTube, put the phone through a series of durability tests. It turns out the smartphone isn't as fragile as some may think. Interestingly, the LED lights on the back do not flicker under pressure.

The video is available on YouTube, and Nelson starts with his screen scratch test. Before the first step begins, the YouTuber points out that the Nothing Phone (1) comes with a protective film on top of the glass screen. Generally, a plastic panel would start scratching at levels 2-3 with a metal-tip pen. Glass starts showing scratch marks at levels 6-7, and panels made of sapphire scratches at 8-9.

In case you're wondering, the front and back panels of the Nothing Phone (1) get Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The YouTuber then starts scraping the smartphone's body using a metal razor blade, leading to scratches all over the phone's aluminum frame and front panel.

Following the scratch test, Nelson also tries the screen burn test where he literally puts the screen under fire from his lighter to see whether pixels recover under extreme heat. We do notice pixels recovering after a while, the process is very slow. Finally, in his bend test, the Nothing Phone (1) survived without any cracks. In fact, the LED lights on the back seem to be intact even under heavy pressure.

Readers must note that the YouTuber did not try any drop tests with the smartphone, and freak accidents happen, so a phone's durability can never be definite. But the current test is what to least expect from this smartphone.

Currently, the Nothing Phone (1)'s price in India starts at Rs 32,999 for the base 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.
