"You keep calling me the good guy."

If you fancy a different kind of superhero movie, Samaritan is now available to watch on Prime Video.

The new movie sees 13-year-old Sam (The Umbrella Academy's Javon 'Wanna' Walton) suspect that his mysterious neighbour Joe Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is Samaritan, a superhero who was reported dead 25 years ago.

When a new villain, Cyrus (Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk), threatens the future of Granite City, Sam needs to persuade Joe Smith to reclaim his superhero past and come back to save the day. But is Joe who Sam thinks he is?

Let's delve into that major reveal at the end of Samaritan to explain all. Needless to say, major spoilers are ahead if you haven't seen the movie yet.

In the movie's title sequence, we're told that Samaritan and Nemesis were twin brothers who ended up becoming sworn enemies. The key event was when residents set their house on fire when they were younger, out of revenge for the damage their powers were causing.

Their parents died in the fire, but both of the twins survived. Samaritan went on to become Granite City's protector, but Nemesis wanted the world – and his brother – to suffer. Nemesis created a hammer fuelled with his own hatred for Samaritan that became the only weapon that could defeat him.

(It's important to remember too that just like the hammer is the only thing that could harm Samaritan, it's also the only weapon that could equally harm Nemesis if somebody used it against him.)

Attempting to do just that, Nemesis lured Samaritan into a trap by threatening the lives of people in Granite City at the local power station. It didn't work though as it only led to a massive explosion that supposedly killed both of them.

25 years later, Cyrus finds this hammer after breaking into the police evidence lock-up and decides to take on the mantle of Nemesis. He inspires the people of Granite City to rise up and "take back what is yours", leading to mass rioting and looting.

Sam's attempts to get Joe to become Samaritan again fail time and again, until Cyrus makes the mistake of kidnapping Sam to bring Samaritan out into the open to kill him and "finish what Nemesis started". Samaritan breaks into Cyrus's warehouse, but the villain gets the upper hand by using the hammer.

Just as it looks as though all hope is lost, Samaritan stops the killer blow and delivers the shocking revelation: "You keep calling me the good guy. I'm not the good guy. I'm the bad guy."

Yep, Joe isn't Samaritan at all... he's Nemesis, and we finally get the full picture of the flashbacks to that fateful night 25 years ago.

Samaritan had the upper hand, but refused to kill Nemesis with the hammer. After he threw it away, the ceiling gave way and despite Nemesis's efforts to save his twin, Samaritan fell to his death.

Nemesis threw both masks away, meaning that everybody else thought they had both died in the blast. He's not a totally bad guy though, as he ends up defeating Cyrus and saving Sam's life.

Because he's seen him fixing broken things, Sam is convinced that Nemesis can change himself, but he's got no intention of becoming a superhero. "If it was only bad people doing bad things, it'd be easy to get rid of them. But the real truth is good and bad live in everybody's heart and it's going to be up to you to make the right choice," he tells Sam.

Before Nemesis slinks off into the night and a life of obscurity again, he watches as Sam is interviewed on live TV after the dramatic events. When he's asked who saved him, Sam exclaims that "Samaritan lives" rather than revealing the truth.
